Who does the work

Three prior CTO roles: at Content Analytics, a retail analytics company, leading an eight-person team through 6.5x ARR growth; at Capshare, a venture-backed startup he co-founded; and at Bitzio, an advertising platform company, leading 13 developers across four countries. More than fifteen years of senior and staff engineering either side of those.

Before Pebble Logic, more than five years of his career went to FDA-regulated medical device software, as architect and staff full-stack engineer at ENSO. That work covered the full lifecycle: requirements and traceability, architecture and risk documentation, verification evidence, and the processes a premarket submission has to survive. It is where Pebble Logic's documentation discipline comes from.

For a hardware project, what matters more is that he has built this particular layer several times. An OCPP 1.6 server written solo at Actineon, an IoT product company, interoperating with chargers he did not build. At HiQ Solar, as a staff engineer, he led the from-scratch rebuild of a commercial solar monitoring platform serving more than 40,000 installations. An analytics platform processing more than 3 TB daily. Now a bedside instrument console replacing a closed-protocol acquisition setup, with a signal chain that has to be defensible and an IEC 62304 lifecycle documentation set, in progress, supporting an FDA premarket submission. Three engineers on the work, not one. The principal and two subcontractors, doing the work directly. Projects are not handed off once the contract is signed.

Both subcontractors are software developers, and one of them brings substantial device experience.

Not every project is staffed by all three. Who works on it depends on what it needs, and the principal scopes each one and writes code on it. On the current medical device program, all of the software has been delivered by the principal personally.

On-site work is available across the Sacramento region and the Bay Area, including Berkeley and Livermore. We are happy to come to the lab.
